Thanks to April Volunteer Groups
We extend our thanks to groups from Hospira Worldwide, Hands On Atlanta, Timberland, Green Apple Festival, EarthLink, EarthShare of Georgia, and Emory University for their volunteer efforts in the park. They build both sweat equity and good karma. The Conservancy hosted 105 volunteers who worked 311 hours. (a value to the Conservancy and the park of over $6298 to the park). If your company/civic group would like to plan a great “team building” activity and also help care for and maintain the park call 404-521-0938.

Good Will Ambassadors Walk the Talk
In February the Conservancy Board of Directors voted to support a pilot initiative in Grant Park that places volunteer ambassadors in the park on weekends. Similar to the ambassadors seen on downtown streets, volunteers in Grant Park will provide help to visitors by giving directions, answering questions, and interpreting park regulations. Ambassadors will also help identify hazard situations, pick up trash, and generally keep watchful eyes on the park.
The initiative is led by the Grant Park Neighborhood Association with financial support from the Conservancy, Zoo Atlanta, GPNA. The city of Atlanta is also supporting the program. Do you want to be a Grant Park Ambassador? You can call for more information 404-521-0938 or inquire via email to: parksandrecreation@gpna.org

Public Comfort Station Rehab in the Works
Conservancy Board member Michael Hoath is leading the charge for the rehabilitation of the existing public restrooms in the park. Preliminary architectural drawings were developed by Jova/Daniels/Busby (JDB) and the plans include earth friendly technologies such as natural light and ventilation to reduce electrical use, a planted green roof, an information kiosk, use of pond water to reduce reliance on potable water, rain collection systems and a nice stone façade to help the building blend into the landscape. More information to come as plans progress.
